Wimbley trade could be tip of iceberg for Browns

When the Cleveland Browns sent linebacker Kamerion Wimbley to Oakland for a third round draft pick, most people assumed the team was done trading.
Eric Mangini alluded that is only the tip of the iceberg.
“It’s not that we didn’t like Kam or didn’t think he was doing good things,” Mangini said. “It’s just that having that pick (No. 75 overall) allows us to have just some more versatility.
“It’s difficult to part with a character guy (like Wimbley). I really like Kam. I really do. It wasn’t a function of wanting to move him. It was more of a function of where do we have depth? Where can we trade to give us some more ability to address other areas?”
One player the coach could be talking about is Philadelphia Eagles OLB Chris Gocong.
The two teams have reportedly been in talks about Gocong who has been heavily coveted by Mangini, but drafted by Heckert.
Tommy Lawlor of Eagles Blitz writes;
“Cleveland is talking to the Eagles about Chris Gocong. Tom Heckert is the man who drafted Chris and Eric Mangini is the coach who coveted Gocong back in the 2006 draft. Chris actually thought he was going to be a Jet. He was caught off guard by the Eagles. We’ll see if the teams can agree on compensation. Word is that the Eagles are hoping for a 4th round pick.”
The Browns hold the 106th pick in the fourth round. Their only pick in that round, however they have four picks in the fifth round and three picks in the third round. Getting a player of Gocong’s value in the fourth round would be potentially better than anything available when Cleveland is on the clock.
Chris Gocong was drafted in the third round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. The 26 year old, 6’2″, 263 lb Gocong has played strong side outside linebacker for most of his time in Philadelphia.
