hR Exclusive: This Ole Fart Thinks “Redskins vs Cowboys”

Posted by: hail2skins on Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Why, please tell me why did our Redskins go out and lay an egg on National TV and get this old man all riled up.  Don’t they know he is old and can’t take the pressure that they are putting on him?  He’s not in a good mood and rightfully so.  They let the Cowboys come in here and escape with a victory breathing life right back into them.  It’s frustrating to me and it just sends the ole fart into a state of disarray.  I’m not going to speak for him, he can do that himself.

Here he is, in a very grumpy mood if you asked me:

That was painful to watch wasn’t it?  I swear, no more prime time games for us.  We seem to love to belly flop on the big stage.  Once again, we give mouth-to-mouth to save a team that is drowning in it’s own poor efforts.  Maybe this offseason they award us the Lady Byng Trophy?

Before this game I wrote down a bunch of questions that I thought this game would answer. Unfortunately, the answers I got were not the ones I hoped for.  I am not going to belabor the individual efforts because other people here have covered that very well.  But I think this was clearly a yardstick game for both the team and coaches.

Who will be the better young QB?
I thought that Jason was going to use this game to show that he had closed the gap between himself and Mr ProBowl.  I will say this much.  Jason took a ferocious beating and still came back time and again.  After this season, it should be the offensive line buying him Rolexes instead of the other way around.  He had so little time on most plays, and was knocked down or battered constantly.  His only turnover might not have happened if Moss could have just grabbed the ball or managed to knock it down.  The long bomb to Moss hit him in the hands; can’t ask for more.  He was off a little on some of his throws, but I would have been amazed if he could raise his arms on Monday.  Romo did just enough and made a couple of nice throws, but he had all day on every pass play, whether the Redskins blitzed or not.  I was more impressed with him in defeat than I have been in some of the victories.

Portis Should Donate Heart To Science, Springs Spotted at Dress Barn

Posted by: BurgundyNGold on Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Sitting inside a frigid FedEx field on Sunday night during the Redskins introduction, I had a revelation, of sorts. Wedged in between the bombardment of advertising that exudes from seemingly every crevice and speaker of the stadium, I focused my attention on the patch of green and watched Clinton Portis carry the American flag out from the tunnel.

To paraphrase Colonel Kurtz, the fictional antagonist from Apocalypse Now, it was then that it hit me like a diamond bullet in the middle of my forehead.  Clinton Portis has more heart then most of us will ever know. Built more like Gale Sayers than Earl Campbell, he runs hard into the middle of the line time after time after time.  If there is a better pass blocker in the game at running back, I have yet to see him play.  He gives 100% on every play, whether he has the ball or not.

Akh’s Thoughts Week 11

Posted by: Akhhorus on Monday, November 17th, 2008

Prologue: We follow direction-there is no choice involved. The bad end unhappily, the good unluckily.

1-The pass protection was abysmal-and that might be kind to their performance.  I didn’t count many passing plays where Campbell didn’t have to scramble and/or got hit. This has to stop and the culprit(although Samuels let up a sack to Ware) is the right side of the line. Jansen looks perpetually overwhelmed now and Thomas is struggling to contain. This has been the story far too many times, and frankly its time for a bit of a shake-up. Heyer needs to come off the bench and replace Jansen.
1b-The run blocking wasn’t any better: while Portis didn’t look 100%, he was having to make his first move behind the line, and not 2-3 yards past the line as usual.  This, again, seemed to be the fault of the right side of the line-especially Rabach/Thomas.  This is a major problem folks. The offense has been at its most effective this year because they can run the ball at will to either side of the line.

2-Portis looked close to 100% last night, but he lacked the 2nd gear burst to fight through the 2nd level of defenders. I was very glad he gutted it out last night, and he put us in a position to have a chance to win, despite his oline. I would still limit his touches until he says he’s 100%.

Honeymoon Over for Zorn

Posted by: BurgundyNGold on Monday, November 17th, 2008

It has been said that all good things must come to an end and nowhere is this statement more true than in the NFL, specifically in Washington.

If you win in this town, the locals will place you in a chair, hoist you in the air and dance around you like a Jewish wedding. If you lose, not so much as a mazel tov. And if you lose to the hated Dallas Cowboys in a very winnable game on a Sunday night, nationally televised game, well, Joan of Arc might have received better treatment than what you’re in store for in this town.

During the 4-1 start the the season — including two huge wins against these very same Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles on the road — Redskin fans couldn’t get enough of Zorn’s knee slapping, golly gee willikers, “schoolboy with a frog in his desk” charm. He was like our very own Opie Cunningham. He almost even had the haircut.

Redskins Lose to Rival Dallas 14-10

Posted by: hail2skins on Monday, November 17th, 2008

The Redskins lost to their division rivals 14-10 on a cold and windy Sunday night.  The Redskins started off looking like they would run away with this game scoring on their first offensive drive and the defense creating two first half turnovers.  The Redskins were not able to convert the turnovers to points and that is something that has been plaguing this offense lately.

The offensive line did not give Jason Campbell time to complete intermediate and long passes and the Dallas defense jumped on all of the short routes we ran.  The one long pass that was attempted was incomplete although Moss gave it his best to try to bring it in.  I don’t know what’s going on with the pass blocking but it needs to be corrected.

I don’t think the Redskins ran the ball enough especially the stretch runs where we have been successful.  They tried to pound it between the tackles but in my opinion our best option was to stick with the stretch runs.

I’m also not seeing the misdirection we saw early in the season.  I thought Dallas did a good job of using misdirection to disguise runs.  We saw that early in the season from the Redskins but not so much lately.

As for the defense, I thought they played a solid game but was on the field way too much due to lack of our offense sustaining drives.  As I mentioned earlier, you need to convert those turnovers to points but our offense simply isn’t getting it done.  It was great to see Hall get an interception in his first game as a Redskins.  A cornerback who actually catches the ball.  Hopefully that is contagious with our other cornerbacks.

Anyway, we lost and need to re-group for Seattle.  There will be story lines for this game (Zorn returning to Seattle) that I hope won’t become a distraction.  This team is still very much in the hunt for a wildcard spot but they need to get their swagger back and that starts with getting a win.  Let’s hope we get that done this Sunday coming up in Seattle.

HAIL TO THE REDSKINS
