Citing various reports by WKYC and ESPN, the Browns are close to signing Titans free agent defensive end Travis LaBoy to a contract.
The 6'3", 260lb defensive lineman was drafted in the second round in 2004. LaBoy played in 13 games last year for the Titans, recording 12 total tackles and 6 sacks in part-time duty. LaBoy who is regarded by some as undersized in DE standards, would fit well in the Willie McGinest role in Cleveland. Travis LaBoy had planned visits with the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts. However, the Saints reported late last night that LaBoy has cancelled his visit with them. This news cements the reports that terms of a deal between LaBoy and the Browns could be done by the end of Sunday. The Cleveland Browns have been very big spenders in the 2008 free agency period. Most of their attention has been on the defensive side of the ball with the acquisitions of both DL Corey Williams for an 2008 second round pick from the Packers and DT Shaun Rogers for Leigh Bodden and a 2008 third round pick. However, yesterday they signed FA wide receiver Donte Stallworth who last year played with the New England Patriots.
