The Rebirth is finally here.
It took us about 10 years, and many heartaches and stumbles along the way, but, is it safe to say that the Brownies are back, as a football team? No This isn't an article, saying how we're going all the way, IMO, we have a long way to go, but isn't it nice to finally have something to look forward, instead of another re-building year? It's nice to see Players that are recognizable by other people in the league, and people being envious of us having them.
I can't say, I've remembered people saying that in a long time. I mean, lets face it, "Big Money" Warren and the other cast of players, just didn't fit well here. There was just something about them that didn't mesh well, The team was named the Cleveland Browns, but did you really feel like they were? Even when they made the playoffs in 2003, it seemed rather more like a quick fix to please the fans, nothing really lasting, Just a team to make the playoffs and then the next year we'd be back to where we started.
But, now, it all feels different. We know have players that seem to fit the mold. Look at Joe Thomas, He seems like a great example of what a Cleveland Browns player should be, A man that skipped the glitz and glammer of New York to go fishing with his family, Pretty typical of his play, not flashy, but he gets the job done and has transformed our offensive line from the league laughing stocks, to the envy of even Pittsburgh.
Jamal Lewis, despite what he's done to us as a Raven seems to be making amends to us by becoming a great back. Seeing him run and steam roll through for a touchdown, reminds me of the workhorse type of runningbacks we used to have in people like Kevin Mack, Mike Pruitt, and may I say if he can keeps it up, Jim Brown? Braylon Edwards, Lets see, He's a Michigan Fan, and his dad played against us with the oilers, You would think he would be as hated as a terrible towel with those marks against him? He even shows the spirit that the old browns used to inhibit, I can't really think of who to compare him to because he seems to be a different breed all together to me. KWII, another Workhorse, Another person I actually didn't expect to do that well for us. He seems to have matured quite nicely, a different person than his college days. I'm hoping his new found talent doesn't go to his head and end up like another T.O., KWII has a chance to possibly be as good as his father and to say that is quite something.
I remember, just a few years ago, when many of us wondered, “How are we even going to be able to compete now without an o-line, d-line, and every single thing under the sun”. Isn't it rather nice to have a QB controversy instead of that? DA, The current starter, has the feeling of a great QB success story. Think along the lines of Kurt Warner, Tom Brady, and others. A guy who came out of nowhere, grew up in a small town, gets cut by a team, works his way into the lineup in one of the ultimate football towns and leads us to a 10-6 record, and a Pro Bowl. One Problem, Theres another QB on the roster, who's shown himself to be a prototypical QB, A Golden boy that looks like he's a model for a poster for Super Cuts $9.99 haircuts. Went to the ultimate university for college football, played under a pro system, and just so happens to be a hometown kid, who's hero when he was younger just happened to be another hometown hero, Bernie Kosar. Couldn't be happier with this situation Personally although, My dream scenario is that DA sticks around for a few more years, lets Brady be the starter, but if Brady does go down, we barely miss a beat, as DA steps in. Hopefully we can keep them here both happy and loving Cleveland, and not inadvertently and not so inadvertently run them out of town like we did the other former backup/starter QB's.
So what do we have to look forward to? Well, lets see, we've improved defensively by adding a two time pro bowler at nose tackle, and Corey Williams at DE, and I doubt we're done in that department. We've added on Offensive another guard to build up our depth to create a great o-line. Added another threat at wideout with Donte Stallworth, now starring beside Braylon Edwards at the position, and to tap things off, The Steelers, Ravens and Bengals all appeared to have gotten worse in the offseason thus far, It Truly is..”GREAT TO BE A FAN.” |
