Kellen Winslow's agent Drew Rosenhaus said on a YouTube video Wednesday that Winslow will attend the mandatory June minicamp and the training camp in July. Winslow is not attending the 12 voluntary organized team activities, which are in the second of four weeks. "These are voluntary activities," Rosenhaus said. "They are not mandatory, and a player has a right to train on his own. "Kellen is coming off of an off-season knee surgery, and he is doing his rehabilitation and his training with a very fine trainer in his hometown of San Diego. He will be at the Browns mandatory minicamp, and he will be at the mandatory training camp." Winslow underwent an off-season scope to repair his damaged right knee. It was at least the fourth surgery on the knee since his motorcycle accident in May 2005. "Kellen's going to be ready to go, and everything should be just fine with him," said Rosenhaus. Rosenhaus, who wants a new deal for Winslow, also questioned why the media were making an issue out of his client not being at OTAs. But when reached last week by phone and asked why his client wasn't attending, Rosenhaus said, "I will have no comment on Kellen's situation."
On Wednesday, head coach Romeo Crennel reiterated that he hasn't yet spoken to Winslow and has no further indication why he's not here. "What's the big to-do?" Rosenhaus said on the video. "Guys have the opportunity to choose whether they want to go to these voluntary functions, and there shouldn't be so much scrutiny on players who choose to work out on their own." The sessions are voluntary, but players usually report to take part in conditioning drills and meetings or rehab injuries. Steve Heiden (back), Joe Jurevicius (knee) and Gary Baxter are rehabilitating in Berea. The only other player rehabilitating on his own is LeCharles Bentley, who's working out in Arizona. Edwards' hip-pointer: Receiver Braylon Edwards suffered a hip pointer in the collision Tuesday that knocked Daven Holly out for perhaps the season with a knee injury. Edwards is listed as day to day. Edwards worked out inside during Wednesday's outdoor practice and appeared fine to observers. "I think he'll be OK," said Crennel. GM Phil Savage also said Edwards' injury is not a concern. McGinest absent: Linebacker Willie McGinest is not participating in OTAs this week because of personal issues, said Crennel. Tucker resting: Crennel said Ryan Tucker is resting at home after undergoing surgery Friday to repair a fractured hip. Tucker had pins placed in the hip and is expected to be ready for the regular season. Crennel said a player fell into him just as he planted. "It was just a freak thing." For now, Tucker will be replaced at right guard by Rex Hadnot, a free-agent pickup from the Dolphins, where he started the past three seasons. "This was one of the better lines, if not the best line, in the NFL last year," said Hadnot. "I just want to try to add to it. It's a great fit. I'm excited and ready to go." Said Crennel: "He's a physical kind of player, and he's learning the system. Because he doesn't know the system yet, there are some things that he needs to work on." |
