A former Browns player has to serve a 10-day jail sentence, and possibly more, for receiving his second OVI.
According to the Rocky River Municipal Court, Hanford Dixon, 49, was sentenced Monday to interactive community control supervision, a fine of $450 plus court costs and jail time. The judge gave him 30 days in jail out of a possible 180, with only 10 days to be served initially starting July 16. Twenty of the days have been deferred until a hearing in December, where it will be decided if Dixon has to serve them.
In addition, Dixon must stay away from drugs and alcohol, enter a substance abuse program and undergo random screenings. He lost his driving privileges for 4 years, but can petition the courts to get them back.
A Westlake police officer stopped Dixon, of Westlake, for driving a white 2000 Mercedes left of the double yellow line on May 17 at 1:19 a.m.
According to police, Dixon smelled of alcohol and was unable to recite the alphabet. He was arrested for OVI and taken to the station, where he refused to submit a breath sample. His driver's license was then automatically suspended, and he was released on personal bond.
Dixon was charged with OVI and improper lane use. He pleaded "no contest" on June 4.
Dixon has one prior OVI conviction from 2007. |
