Being a good blocker may not be as important for a wide receiver as it is for a tight end, but it is a tremendous asset for players in either position. Many long runs, or short receptions that turn into long gains, are the direct result of a wide receiver's willingness to block. The block by a wide receiver may not be as devastating as the block thrown by an offensive lineman, but it can be just as effective in preventing a defensive player from tackling the man with the ball.
