SUMMARY

Vickers has good size and natural strength. He can be an effective lead blocker when he bends his knees and lead blocks aggressively. But too often he does not get low, gets stood up at point of attack and does not eliminate the defender. He runs good routes and has good hands -- reaches out and plucks ball away from his body. He is an instinctive runner who follows blockers well and consistently fights and competes for every last yard until he is on the ground. He runs through arm/grab tackles, takes hard hits and gains yards after contact. However, he lacks explosiveness and good playing speed to make big plays running with the ball in the open field. He lacks foot quickness, agility and playing speed to be a big playmaker and struggles to stay over feet and maintain his block out in space. Overall, Vickers is a versatile fullback who will challenge for a roster spot as a backup fullback, but in order to become a starting fullback he will need to block more aggressively on every lead block. In the end, I think he will be a solid backup fullback who can do an adequate job when he starts, but will not be a consistent enough blocker to maintain a starting job.

STRONG POINTS

Vickers is a versatile and very competitive fullback. He has shown willingness to deliver a hard, initial blow on lead blocks in the hole. He runs strong with the ball -- whether a handoff or catch out of the backfield. He keeps his feet vs. arm/grab tackles and hard hits to gain yards after contact. He has good hands and catches the ball well out of the backfield. He has experience running a variety of pass routes for a fullback; even deep down the field on deep 'Wheel' routes. He does a good job of following blockers when running with the ball and fights for every last yard until he gets tackled.

WEAKNESSES

Vickers has good size and runs strong with the ball, but he does not show the same strength as a lead blocker. While he is willing to deliver a hard initial blow, he struggles to knock the linebacker backward and eliminate him. He lacks the quick feet and agility to block consistently out in space -- decents when man is on his track, but struggles to adjust on the move. He is not a consistent pass blocker. He tends to try and cut block the blitzer most of the time and does not consistently keep his man out of the play. He is an upright runner who lacks explosiveness and playing speed to make big plays running with the ball and he takes a lot of hard hits because of his upright running style.
