DeMario Minter4/30/06 Demario Minter conference call

(On his college play)- “The knock against me was that I only had two interceptions in my (college) career. I have to work on making more plays on the ball and putting myself in position to get more interceptions.”

(On who he models himself after in the pros)- “I like Champ Bailey’s work ethic. He comes to play everyday. When he was at Georgia, I heard good things about him. Deion, I liked his flashiness and showmanship. I liked Darrell Green because he’s durable. He was in the league for years and that shows how he keeps his body in shape. I model myself after them as three examples of a good corner.”

(On his friendship with Sean Jones)- “Sean (Jones) and I are cool. At Georgia, he mentored me and showed me the ropes. I’m very grateful that he’s there in Cleveland so I have somebody to look up to and take after.”

(On his expectations with the Browns)- “I don’t have any expectations. I’m just going to come in and work hard. I’m going to do what I can. I know I’m going to have to do my part on special teams, so I’m just going to come in, worry about what I have to do, and just play. If I find myself in a position to play, I will.”

4/30/06 General Manager Phil Savage press conference

(On fifth round DeMario Minter)- “He’s a player that has a lot of game experience. I believe he has started 50 plus games at Georgia. They use an umbrella type of coverage and some man-to-man. He should be familiar with some of the man coverage concepts that are taught here. We felt like a cornerback would be a good add on day two.”

(On DeMario Minter’s value outweighing his character issue)- “I don’t think he has a major character issue. There was a situation that arose at Georgia his freshman year. There were eight people involved and all eight of them were taken in. I’d say it’s very minor. He’s a good person and he was here. I think he’s had no issues since then.”

(On drafting a safety)- “I think it’s Brian Russell at one safety and then I could see Brodney Pool and Sean Jones competing at another spot. We have Shawn Mayer over in NFL Europe. Obviously, a second safety at this point would probably be a good thing.”

DEMARIO MINTER

Cornerback

University of Georgia Bulldogs

#2

5:11.1-190

Stone Mountain, Georgia

Stephenson High School

OVERVIEW

DeMario has developed into the shutdown defender that the coaching staff envisioned when they

heavily recruited him coming out of high school. He has excellent range and outstanding speed,

excelling at staying tight with the receiver on deep routes. Evidence of his pass coverage

dominance was when he did not allow an opponent to catch any passes in four games during his

junior campaign.

The Super Prep All-Dixie selection also earned Atlanta Journal-Constitution “Super Southern

100", Top 50 in Georgia and AAAAA All-State honorable mention as a senior at Stephenson High

School. He recorded 35 tackles with two interceptions as a junior, adding 52 tackles, four

interceptions and 18 pass deflections during his senior year.

A participant in the 2001 Georgia-Florida High School Football Game, DeMario was also an All-

State selection in track. He ran personal bests of 10.7 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 21.9 in

the 200. Minter also competed on the school’s 4x100-meter relay team.

Built for speed, DeMario emulates the style of play of his heroes, Deion Sanders (Baltimore),

Champ Bailey (Denver) and Darrell Green (ex-Washington). "I love Green's knowledge of the

game,” Minter said. “I love Deion's cockiness and I love Champ's style. I try and pattern

myself after all three. I am a very good cover guy and I can be physical if I have to."

Knowing that Minter’s speed would be a great benefit covering the Southeastern Conference’s premier receivers, the Georgia coaching staff decided to play DeMario in twelve games during the 2002 season rather than redshirt him. In a reserve role, he posted 19 tackles (10 solos) with four pass deflections.  He was listed second on the depth chart at strong-side cornerback in 2003. Minter was in on 16 tackles (8 solos) that year, starting the Capital One Bowl game vs. Purdue at nickel back.  DeMario had a great preseason in 2004 and earned the starting strong-side cornerback job in 2004. He collected 51 tackles (42 solos) with an assisted sack, 3.5 stops for losses and a fumble recovery.

In 2005, DeMario started every game. He registered 48 tackles (36 solos) with 3.5 stops for

losses and two pressures. He caused a fumble, deflected nine passes and also had a pair

of interceptions.  In 49 games with the Bulldogs, DeMario started 26 times. He recorded 134 tackles (96 solos) with an assisted sack for minus 7 yards and 7.5 stops for losses of 26 yards. He deflected 23 passes and intercepted two others. He also caused and recovered a fumble.
