The Official Browns 24/7 Mock Draft PDF Print E-mail
Written by Wayne A. Lett, Browns 24/7 Staff

With all the hype surrounding the QB's, I found it very hard to tab one of them to one of these teams since I honestly do not rate either better than the class that came out last year. Each one of them would be below Leinhart, Cutler, and Young.

Feedback is appreciated...

Thanks and enjoy!

UPDATED 3/16/07 @ 4:30am

1. Oakland - Calvin Johnson, WR (Georgia Tech) - I know there is a lot of talk about JaMarcus Russell with this pick, but I really believe that Kiffin will go into the season grabbing a vet or working with Walters.  CJ is the safest and best talent in this draft and with the way the Raiders have drafted the last few years, they can not gamble anymore.  They need production out of their draft picks.  CJ is the best athlete and player in this draft and he deserves to go #1.  Randy Moss should be gone by 2008 regardless, so he would fill in nicely.

2. Detroit - Brady Quinn, QB (Notre Dame) - Now Quinn will be the selection here but it may not be Detroit turning in the card.  I think Houston or Miami would like to move up and take Quinn.  Detroit really wants to stock pile some picks and pray Matt Millen doesn't screw them up.

3. Cleveland - JaMarcus Russell, QB (LSU) - I know most Browns fans wanted Peterson here, but the reality of it is that this team and more importantly Phil Savage wanted Russell.  Phil has known JR since he was a freshman and even advised him on whether to come out of college.  There is a lot of history there and make no mistake, this is Phil Savage's team.  Romeo Crennel is just the coach.  Russell gives us a huge identity and quickly makes all of our playmakers that much better.

4. Tampa Bay - Joe Thomas, LT (Wisconsin) - I did have Gaines Adams here but with JT falling to them, it's too good to pass up.  Gruden needs OL and he quickly rushes the slip in to the podium.

5. Arizona - Gaines Adams, DE (Clemson) - Arizona really needs to bolster that defense and this is the right pick for them.  They are excited that Adams fell to them.

6. Washington - Alan Branch, DT (Michigan) - Their defensive line is suspect and Joe Gibbs knows the importance of stopping the run and clocking the middle.  He gets his guy and then takes the rest of the day off since they don't pick again until the 5th round.

7. Minnesota - Jamaal Anderson, DE (Arkansas) - They would really like to take a WR here as it is a big need, but WR's are in plenty in this draft, so they wait.  Instead they grab a big guy who can get some pressure on the opposing QB.

8. Houston - Levi Brown, OT (Penn St.) - Now, this can be two fold here.  I really see Detroit making this pick as they traded with Houston and swapped picks.  But in the event that Detroit sticks with Quinn, the Texans still need a stud LT and this fits the billing.  Kubiak knows that he needs to protect the QB and open up some lanes for his new RB in Ahman Green.

9. Miami - Adam Carriker, DE (Nebraska) - They really want to take Ginn Jr., but he has not worked out since hurting his ankle and that would be a bit too risky to take this high.  Instead they shore up their Dline and grab a guy who can make plays.

10. Atlanta - Laron Landry, S (LSU) - Atlanta really needs help in their secondary and they have for years.  Landry is the best safety in this draft and its a shame that he lasted this long.  This is almost a slam dunk if he is here.

11. San Fran - Robert Meacham, WR (Tenn) - Every other draft site has this guy going in the low first round.  I just don't see it.  Sure he may a bit raw, but all he has done is perform.  San Fran needs a WR badly.  As I mentioned before Ginn slides a bit cuz of his injury.  They have also spent too much money on the defense for them to look on that side of the ball in the first round.

12. Buffalo - Adrian Peterson, RB (Oklahoma) - Marv Levy is smiling and popping the champagne as they turn in the card.  This is a huge win for them.  Having traded away McGahee, they needed a quality running back and to have Peterson fall to them is a coup.  They could also look at Marshawn Lynch if either Peterson is gone or not.  Marv has strong ties to the Cal program.

13. St. Louis - Leon Hall, CB (Michigan) - The Rams need help against the run and in pass coverage.  They may look at a DT but instead grab the best CB on the board.

14. Carolina - Patrick Willis, ILB (Ole Miss) - I firmly believe Carolina will go LB here.  Dan Morgan has been plagued by concussions and they need someone in the middle to solidify their defense.  Willis is a beast in the middle, so he gets the nod.

15. Pittsburgh - Lawrence Timmons, OLB (Florida State) - Having cut Joey Porter and wanting to reload on defense to shift to a more 4-3 over time... they snag a great LB at 15.

16. Green Bay - Marshawn Lynch, RB (Cal) - Green Bay is very surprised that Lynch has lasted this long.  They quickly snag him and solidify their run game.  With Moss potentially in the mix to compliment Driver and Jennings, this offense is looking good.

17. Jacksonville - Reggie Nelson, S (Florida) - They lost some key guys in FA, so they just plug in another FLA native and keep going.

18. Cincinnati - Chris Houston, CB (Houston) - Cincy's biggest needs is their defense.  They can't stop anybody.  Houston is a solid shutdown CB who will help the defense take away one opponents weapon.

19. Tennessee - Ted Ginn Jr., WR (OSU) - Teddy Ginn Jr. stops falling here.  The Titans want to give Vince Young some playmakers and this will address that as well as help the team speed.  He will also be asked to return kicks and punts since Pacman Jones may not be back.  It's a win-win for Tennessee.

20. NY Giants - Jarvis Moss, DE (Florida) - There are rumors that Michael Strahan may not come back, even so, he is getting a bit older and could be on the downside of his career.  Getting a guy like Moss will help fill that void and give Strahan a few more years on the field.

21. Denver - Amobi Okoye, DT (Louisville) - He's young and nobody thought he would last this long.  His age had a little to do with him falling since teams want instant starters at the NFL level.  However, AO is able to split time with Gerard Warren and others while he grows into his body.

22. Dallas - Aaron Ross, CB (Texas) - Dallas has no idea where to play some of its players cuz of the amount of holes in their secondary.  This helps solidify where guys will play since Ross will hold down one of those spots.

23. Kansas City - Dwayne Bowe, WR (USC) - KC really needs to give Huard a WR weapon.  Something that has been lacking for years.  With Gonzo getting older and their running game in full swing, its time to add that final piece of the puzzle.  Bowe has a great combination of size and speed.

24. New England - Greg Olsen, TE (Miami, Fl) - Having lost Dan Graham in FA, the Pats reload with another pass catching TE who will not be asked to be a savior in NE.  He will be allowed to grow and mature on his own.

25. NY Jets - Michael Griffin, S (Texas) - The Jets need some more playmakers on defense.  Griffin has the ability to play CB and S, so his versatility fits with the Jets new direction.  After spending a ton on O last year, they grab some D help.

26. Philadelphia - Jon Beason, OLB (Miami, Fl) - They need help on defense and Beason is the best available LB in this draft to help them get back to form.

27. New Orleans - Darrelle Revis, CB (Pittsburgh) - Fred Thomas showed some bad signs in the playoffs and the Saints see that glaring hole to fill.  Revis would be a nice addition to a unit that is much improved.

28. New England - Paul Posluszny, OLB (Penn St.) - Nobody does more with white linebackers than Bill Bilicheck.  He has taken guys like Mike Vrabel and such and turned them into household names.  He could do the same with Paul.

29. Baltimore - Ben Grubbs, OG (Auburn) - Baltimore needs OL and more importantly, interior lineman.  They could easily take Joe Staley here as well, since they are not sure if Ogden is coming back.  They need to start planning for the future.

30. San Diego - Dwayne Jarrett, WR (USC) - The Chargers have been trying to find a true WR to help their team.  While Jarrett may not be the #1 they have been looking for, he will add some quality to the position and could be a solid possession receiver who will make the tough catch over the middle.

31. Chicago - Tony Ugoh, OT (Arkansas) - Chicago needs to beef up their Oline.  Grabbing a quality guy like Ugoh will help the run game and keep Rex in the upright position.

32. Indianapolis - David Harris, ILB (Michigan) - Indy needs LB's to help stop the run.  They lost way to many guys to FA.

33. Oakland - Justin Blalock, OG (Texas) - Oakland grabbed it's WR and now it needs to get some protection for their QB.  Blalock lines up next to Gallery and helps him get better.

34. Detroit - Marcus McCauley, CB (Fresno St.) - Detroit gave away Bly and need someone to help them cover the other teams WR's.  This seems like the logical choice, although we are dealing with Matt Millen here.

35. Tampa Bay - Sidney Rice, WR (South Carolina) - Tampa needs defense and wideouts.  They snag the best WR left in the draft to help give Simms someone to throw to.

36. Cleveland - Michael Bush, RB (Louisville) - Since we failed to grab Peterson in round 1, we still need a RB to take over when Jamal is done in Cleveland.  So Phil Savage grabs a Lewis clone in Bush.  The guy would have easily been a round 1 pick had he stayed healthy.  Since he broke his leg, he fell some.  Now, we have our QB and RB of the future.  We already have our WR, TE and some Oline guys...  IN the 3rd round, I can see us grabbing Manuel Ramirez, OG (Texas Tech) to help bolster our line and take over for newly signed McKinney.

There ya have it, my first revision...

This mock will be updated often as free agency moves along and teams fill certain needs.  I will be adding positions to each of these players on the next edit.
